Project overview
Mercado Libre’s assistant was no longer keeping up with the company’s AI ambitions. The existing experience had fragmented foundations, limited flexibility, and wasn’t built to scale across the growing number of AI use cases emerging across the ecosystem.
I led the redesign of the assistant as one of the company’s most strategic AI initiatives, helping define not only the new experience, but also the direction and principles for how our AI Agent should evolve across products. This meant going beyond interface design: prioritizing the features to build, leading the design direction, getting buy-in from AI and Design Directors, partnering across teams, and leading other designers working on the broader assistant ecosystem.
The redesign introduced a more flexible and modern interaction model, expanded the assistant beyond a purely conversational interface, and established a foundation that could support multiple agents, use cases, richer responses, interactive widgets, and future AI capabilities across Mercado Libre and Mercado Pago.
Project outcome
The redesign became the foundation for AI assistant experiences across Mercado Libre, supporting adoption across 100+ use cases and a 200M+ user baseline. It helped shift the assistant from a simple chat experience into a more scalable and strategic AI platform for the company.
